Discover The Facts You Need To Understand Prior To Having Liposuction
By Spa guru | June 3, 2009
Liposuction is also known as lipoplasty (“fat modeling”), suction lipectomy (“suction-assisted fat removal”) or liposculpture and is a style of body contouring. To put it another way fat is extracted from different parts of the body attempting to achieve a chosen shape. Liposuction has been here since the 1960′s however it is only since the nineteen nineties that it has become popular. Before then the techniques utilized were not as successful, with the results often being widely varied. It was during the nineteen nineties that ultrasound was incorporated into the liposuction technique, which made it easier to extract larger amounts of fat. This was achieved by liquefying the fat first.
It is not only women who consult liposuction surgeons but men do too. 20 years ago this rarely ever happened, but today men are frequently having the very same beauty procedures as women. Men often wish to have specific places on the body enhanced, for example, male breasts, abdomen and flanks, women usually want to treat such places on the body as the abdomen, hips and thighs. Whichever area one chooses to have sculptured it would be wise to keep in mind that all cosmetic surgery carries certain risks. Unfortunately there are negative aspects to having liposuction, if an extreme amount of fat is removed, the area can sometimes be lumpy, or appear to have rifts in the skin.
One incredibly important aspect of liposuction, which must never be forgotten, is that it should not. under any circumstances, be used as a low-effort alternative to exercise and diet. There are a lot of contraindications to liposuction and being grossly overweight is one of them. A surgeon will usually refuse to perform liposuction on anybody who is morbidly or severely obese. This is not an act of discrimination, but simply a medical decision decided considering the facts. People who suffer from obesity are commonly considerably unfit and not generally inĀ good health, both of which nullify one’s eligibility for the procedure. There are also risks with anesthesia if a person is overweight. The best candidates for liposuction are those patients who are in generally good shape and healthy, and who have not smoked for several months previously.
Liposuction is performed either; under local anesthesia, local anesthesia with sedation, or general anesthesia. Firstly the surgeon will cut carefully into the skin at the areas where the excess fat is to be extracted. Usually the fat is sucked out using a cannula and aspirator (a hollow tube and a suction device) During the surgery, several contributing factors are considered which can effect the amount of fat that can removed without risk. The safety issues are not only related to the amount of fat removed, but also to the overall health of the patient being operated upon, and the choice of anesthesia used.
