Heartburn – A Natural Cure
By Spa guru | February 17, 2009
Natural Cure For Heartburn Or Urban Myth
A good number of sincere folk are convinced they have found a heartburn home remedy
but there are just as many convinced that a supposed natural cure for
heartburn is nothing less than an urban myth. However, it’s
possibly true that in a few instances some of the lotions
and potions are active almost as a placebo and in pecular way add to a
natural heartburn remedy.
A goodly proportion of the natural remedies for heartburn and indigestionin
are flights of fancy but, however, it
would be advisable to speak to your doctor or a qualified medical
practitioner before embarking on some of the more out of the
run-of-the-mill cures for heartburn remedies. This is especially true in the case of
expectant mothers who often suffer from heartburn.
Whenever a natural heartburn relief is discussed, ginger is
mentioned as a universal panacea. It’s very true that
ginger has long been thought to settle queasy tummies and, in
fact, some boat hire companies specialising in inshore trips give
tablets of ginger for this very reason. This may work in some
cases and there is evidence to support the use of ginger tablets
in these conditions. Other ginger-based stuff recommended by
their many enthusiasts include ginger in it’s many guises of crystallized stem ginger, ginger tea,
ginger-flavoured lollies and cookies even though
the real ginger content of a ginger cookie is often just above 1%.
Another of the usual suspects thought by a good number of folk to
be decidedly useful in the treatment of heartburn and indigestion is honey.
There are no studies in the recent past which suggest honey as a
dependable cure for indigestion and heartburn, there’s some
supporting evidence that Active Manuka honey is helpful in
treating children who have gastroenteritis. Certainly
that Active Manuka honey has a unique antibacterial property
which suggests it should be considered for internal and external
use.
Herbal tea, an old favorite with many folk when looking for a genuine heartburn home remedy
but which one? Some of the favorites are chamomile tea, anise
seed tea, cinnamon tea, slippery bark elm tea and fennel seed
tea. It is suggested that these teas have a soporific effect and
are most effective if ingested at night.
Liquorice, actually DGL – De-Glycyrrhizinated Liquorice -
is well regarded as a heartburn home remedies in tablet form
if chewed well and digested, equally well, around 15 – 20 minutes before a main
meal.
The juice from the Aloe Vera plant enjoyed a burst of popularity
a few years ago and almost became a catch-all cure for
everything. All the same there are various indications to support the
say half a cup just before a meal will help in pacifying an
out-of-sorts stomach. If you want to try this one ensure your purchase
is for internal use as there are various Aloe Vera products
suitable for exterior use only.
It’s inevitable that in any discussion about a natural cure for
heartburn there is bound to be at least one way-out
contribution but there are possible a couple which may require some nerve
and ingenuity to try. One involves our old friend ginger, but in
this instance out of Africa, but it must be mixed with something
not available in everyone’s grocery cupboard. If you take sap from a mango tree
with crushed ginger you’ll finish with a concoction known in the
Congo as tangawisi juice – supposed to be a remedy for stomach pains.
The other uncommon suggestion, this time available in most
grocery storecupboard, will definitely have to summon up some courage to try
and comes out of France. it is believed that it was a favorite of the
Spanish Conquistadors in their 15th and 16th
century voyages to the new world. Reality or make-believe, it’s hard to say?
If you’re feeling brave and want to give it a go just grab a level teaspoon of yellow
mustard and, open sesame, in an instant all your heartburn
will disappear; or so the story goes!
It’s undeniable that most, if not all, of these remedies will
are successfull for some folk. Nevertheless, you will have to
decide for yourself, by trial and error if any is, for you, a
heartburn home remedy or old wives’ tail.
